A good example of a Colt navy Richards mason conversion, in .38 rimfire. It has the popular civilian issue 4 3/4" octagonal barrel, with New York address, shell extractor, and still retains the percussion rammer hole to the lug. It has an external spring on the loading gate, which has had a good repair, and works fine. At some time it was modified for .38 centrefire, and retains the hole in the recoil shield for the firing pin; please see photo. This does not affect its operation in rimfire in any way. The barrel, frame, backstrap and loading gate share the same serial number, the trigger-guard is a replacement. The cylinder shows very little in the way of markings, but is in otherwise sound condition. The grips are in very good condition, with some nice figuring. The barrel/frame fit is tight, with no play, and the action works perfectly. The gun was nickel plated, and still shows signs of it. The metalwork is sound, with only surface pitting. The case is nicely made and fitted, with a walnut finish. The shell shown in the final photo is included. This lot has a low, realistic reserve!
