Come on you Colt experts I need your help with this one.
6" octagonal barrel with superb rifling and much blue on underside, top
reads- ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Frame marked-COLTS
PATENT.
31cal on trigger guard. Serial number 282369 on all parts including
wedge, cylinder pin and cylinder. All cylinder scene very good, gun is
in very good condition and working order. A prize in any collection.
Now here is the strange part, the gun has been made/converted? to .32
rimfire by a plate being fitted behind cylinder and fixed through the
recoil shield, the recoil shield has been cut away to load but the
plate has not been cut away so how is it loaded? On removing the barrel
there is a pin to stop the cylinder from being removed so how is it
loaded? The serial number puts it late in production so is it a test
piece that went wrong or is it a conversion that did not get finished?

I have had an email to say that this gun was loaded by removing the cylinder!
So why is there a pin to stop the cylinder being removed? Dont make sense.
Loads of interest and lots of emails but no one has the answer to this unusual Colt.
