MUSEUM QUALITY, I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO A GUNSMITHS AND HAD IT RATED AT 92 TO 94% ORIGINAL BLUE. A VERY SPECIAL GUN.
This Remington 1858 is outstanding and a real collectors centre piece. The 92 to 94% Blue is original and deep with 99% or better on the frame and barrel and with about 80% on the cylinder. The blueing is deep too with great shine.
The edges are so crisp on this gun you feel like you could cut youself on the octagonal barrel edges. There is virtually no wear on this gun. It is as new as you might ever see, a new replica gun is not as good as this!
Original early German silver cone front sight.
The barrel address is the best i have ever seen on a Remington 1858, they mostly are light. this one is sharp and deep.
The bore is superb mirror finish with crisp rifling. The action is crisp and tight, someone has set it up with a very light (Hair) pull on the trigger, it has a great feel but this gun just doesn't even look like it has had more that a few shots through it!
Grips are perfect untouched and numberd to the gun with great fit, the cartouche is visible on the grip, can't quite make out the initial but i'll take a closer look to find the inspector.
All original gun, the screws are all original, the case hardening can be seen on the hammer, All nipples are original and clear, this gun can go to war now but it is just too good to shoot!
The serial number on the barrel and frame are 44226, on the back of the cylinder it is R 4922. This is the original cylinder, i have been told that when Remington tested the cylinders with a big powder load if the cylinder failed the inspector simply reached for a replacment cylinder that had already been tested, hence the R on this cylinder! It would have been nice if the original numberd cylinder had passed but the one on this gun is the one it left the factory with to forfill the government contract.
Further marks on the gun are 2 capital M's on the barrel, 2 M's and 2 L's on the frame, one M on the cylinder, C on the trigger guard and what looks like 2 C's on the grips! These aren't the large C's you see for 'condemed' so i think they are an inspectors initial. The grips and trigger guard are perfect!
Not sure if i have missed anything but all questions are welcome, this is a very special American civil war revolver, more pictures and information are available, just ask.
You will not regret buying this one, it is by far not your average Remington 1858, i have not seen a dealer offer one with as much blue as this one has for less that £2000!
