REDUCED - AND NO RESERVE If you were disappointed at losing the opportunity to buy the minty Colt New Service I recently advertised, here is your chance to buy a similar gun, and though it's not in quite the same minty condition, it's still a very nice gun indeed - and at a more affordable price - complete with Colt letter. Obsolete Calibre - No licence required in UK, provided the gun is kept only as an ornament This is a very nice
example of the 'Old Model' Flat Top New Service Revolver in the
obsolete .44 S&W Russian Calibre. Of the 21,000 made between 1900
and 1909 only 500-1,000 were Target guns, this one coming out of the
factory in March 1909. Serial number 207xx.
In excellent mechanical condition, with matching numbers (except for
cylinder) and retaining well over 60% original finish, though somewhat
faded.The blue finish has minor scratching and some freckling.
Barrel markings, Colt's proof mark, serial numbers and the Rampant Colt emblem are all clear.
The bore is very good with bright shiny lands and crisp rifling, though there is a ring of moderate pitting in mid barrel.
The chambers are immaculate, the ejection system works smoothly, and the excellent lock up is as tight as a drum. In continuous production from 1898 through 1944, the New Service was
the largest swing-out cylinder double action revolver ever produced.
It has adjustable sights (front blade / rear notch) and straight fluted cylinder.
The chequered Fleur De Lis walnut grips are in excellent shape, each
carrying the serial number in pencil, with crisp chequering. Stamped
into the base of the butt is the number 03 and etched beside it (and on
the base of each walnut grip) are the letters 'UP. Although there is no
written evidence available this is thought to refer to the Union
Pacific Railroad, which issued its guards with Colt New Service
revolvers - although the issue of a target model must leave some doubt. If the UP association is correct, this is a much travelled gun. As is the case with all my guns, this Colt is offered strictly as a
display item, not for firing.
