Hopkins & Allen Blue Jacket No.2 - Excellent condition
This is a Hopkins & Allen Blue Jacket No.2 in .32 rimfire, 2 5/8” round barrel, excellent birds head grips in rosewood with removable sideplate, which distinguishes this model from the normal pocket revolvers of this era.
Low serial number of 1156 in pencil on the inside of the RH side grip (feint), stamped on the grip frame, barrel and cylinder, Patent date – March 28 1871, which is the Hopkins & Allen patent date corresponding with this model.
On top of the frame is stamped “HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG.CO. - BLUE JACKET No 2 - PAT MAR. 28 1871 in three lines.
In excellent condition with around 90% original nickel, I hope the pictures tell the story.
Working with good indexing and cycling, only the cylinder stop is missing from this example.
Cylinder pin does not look like the original to me, but none the less a good working copy.
Hopkins & Allen were major arms makers c. 1868 to 1915 in Norwich, Connecticut, USA. Manufacturers of a large line of “Suicide Special” spur trigger revolvers as well as some larger models. They produced a range of revolvers that were numbered from XL single shot, Blue Jacket No1, XL No 1, XL No 1 Blue Jacket, No 1 1/2, XL No 2, Blue Jacket No 2, through to XL No. 7 and finishing with their Martial Arms which were the XL Navy in .38 rimfire, XL Army in .44 rimfire and the XL Police model in .38 rimfire.
This is an extremely good example of the Blue Jacket No 2.
