This is a good cased Colt navy revolver by Richards / Mason in .38 rimfire. A factory made revolver from surplus navy parts, not a conversion from percussion. Made c.1872.
4 3/4" Octagonal barrel with one line New York address on the top flat. "Address Col Saml Colt. New-York. U.S. "
Spring loaded cartridge ejector rod on right side of barrel.
Spring loaded loading gate on right side.
Good walnut grips,probably replacements as in better condition than you would expect.
Brass trigger guard and backstrap. Originally nickle plated,some traces remaining.
Matching numbers to barrel,frame,trigger guard and backstrap,overstamped on trigger guard. Cylinder pin and loading gate have different but matching numbers.
Overall to a silver grey patina,well used. Working action.
Case approx 12 1/2" by 9 1/2" of later manufacture, lined in green baize with cartridge storage board and accessory compartments. |
